First Word
First Word: A Word from TCA’s Head of School, Mrs. Judy Brown
One of the things I love about a new school year is the hope it brings of a fresh start. As Christians, we are the recipients of the most merciful of fresh starts through Jesus. It is my prayer that your children personally experience the genuine love and hope of Christ this year at TCA.
Kindergarten - 12th graders gathered last Thursday morning in the gym for our first chapel of the year. We worshiped together and spent some time introducing this year’s ministry theme, Genuine. The theme is connected to Romans 12:9-13, our school verses for the year from the Apostle Paul’s letter to Roman Christians.
We will spend this school year in ministry walking through these verses striving to better understand what it means to be a genuine Christ-follower. I shared two examples in chapel to help illustrate that often all is not what it seems in what we accept as being real or genuine. First, I displayed a pretty potted plant from my office. In reality, it is a high-quality fake, never watered or tended to in any way, except to brush off the dust from time to time. If you get really close, it’s easy to notice that it is not real. I also shared a pearl necklace that I love to wear. It is a long strand of perfectly shaped pearls, identical in color and shape, with a single knot between each one. They are beautifully fake. A closer look does not reveal that they are not real because they are well crafted to look authentic. Only those with the knowledge to determine a pearl’s authenticity would know the difference.
We often find ourselves enamored by false representations of happiness, success, beauty, and even Christianity. Paul’s letter to early Roman Christians encourages us as believers how to authentically live, love, and serve as members of the body of Christ. By God’s grace, may our children catch a glimpse of Jesus in our daily lives and be encouraged to accept and choose Him as their own. And when we falter, may we all find a fresh start in His mercy and eternal hope.
Thank you, TCA families, for allowing us to be a part of your children’s lives and education. I pray for the Lord’s protection and blessings over you and your family. It’s going to be a wonderful school year at Trinity!
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
